Latvian President Egils Levits said that the country, together with Finland, Estonia, the Czech Republic and other like-minded states, should put forward a demand at the European level to stop issuing tourist visas to Russians. His words are transmitted by Interfax.

Levits stressed that these would be additional sanctions against Moscow.

On August 11, the Latvian Seimas officially declared Russia a state sponsor of terrorism. The country's parliament believes that Moscow has been directly and indirectly supporting and financing terrorist regimes for many years. As an example, cooperation with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, the poisoning of the Skripals, as well as the downed Boeing MH-17 are cited.

In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that such a decision contradicts international law.
